Overview

The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART, formerly AAT) can review most visa refusal and cancellation decisions — but strict deadlines apply, often 21–28 days from notification. Early case analysis is the difference between a winnable review and a lost right.

Eligibility requirements

  • A reviewable decision (most refusals/cancellations)
  • Lodgement within the strict time limit
  • Usually onshore with a bridging visa during review

Document checklist

  • The refusal/cancellation decision record
  • Complete original application file
  • New evidence addressing the refusal reasons
  • Submissions responding to each refusal ground

Frequently asked questions

Is every refusal worth appealing?

No. We first obtain and analyse the decision record: some refusals turn on fixable evidence gaps, others on findings unlikely to change. You get an honest prospects assessment and a fixed quote before deciding.
